Preview

This is a critical game for both outfits, if Rice are to have a chance of winning season and play in a bowl game a victory here would put them in sight of the finishing line. Tulane on the other hand need to win if they are going to avoid a disaster, they still have games against LSU and Tulsa to come and defeat here would leave them looking at a maximum of 3 wins for the season.

Rice Owls :

Rice are a team with two faces, they have one of the best attacks in the league but on the other side the defence ranks among the very worst. On the positive side QB Chase Clement is one of the best players in college football and is a one man offence, he accounts for 27 of Rice's 34 offensive touchdowns, he is passing for over 300 yards a game and running for another 50. If he fires on all cylinders then the Owls will be unstoppable.

The defence on the other hand has been woeful, they have only held 2 teams below 30 points and have allowed three teams to score 40 or more. A positive note is that the 3 defeats have come to Texas, Vandy and Tulsa, games that no one in their right mind would have expected them to win.

The offensive side of the ball must be on top form if they are to win this weekend.

Tulane Green Wave :

Tulane have been a little unfortunate this season, a couple of narrow defeats leave them looking at an ugly record, the main problem has been scoring, they have only topped 30 points against the woeful SMU and in recent weeks have lost to Army and UTEP in games that needed to be victories if the season was to be a success.

The problems have been at QB were inexperienced Kevin Moore has thrown more INT's than TD's, the key will be to keep the ball on the ground were Andre Anderson is ahveing a stellar season, he is averaging a mighty 8.1 ypc and has TD's against everyone bar Alabama.

The defence will need to be at its very best this week if they are to stop this high powered attack.

The Verdict :

This is a tough game to call, a classic of attack against stopping power, I always like to see excitement win out and I am calling for a Rice victory.
