Nationals Look To Stay Hot In Atlanta
Baseball: United States, MLB
Pitcher matchup: John Lannan (8-8) vs Tommy Hanson (6-2)
Tuesday, August 11th 2009 - Start 7:00pm ET
Washington Nationals
(40-72 Overall - 14-39 Road)
Believe it or not betting fans, but the Washington Nationals, who have only won 40 games this entire Major League Baseball season (fewest in the Majors), is on an eight game winning streak right now.
So s hard to believe as that is, with that 8-game streak, the Nationals are the hottest team in all of baseball.
The Nationals have had the hitting this year but what’s changed recently has been their pitching. The Nats have given up just 4.1 runs per game over their eight-game winning streak while scoring an average of 7.1.
Lannan leads the Nationals in ERA. His 3.39 ERA is pretty good when you consider how bad the Nationals pitching has been at times.
The Nationals bats are fairly hot right now but they’ll get a test on Tuesday night.
Atlanta Braves
(58-54 Overall - 28-25 Home)
The Atlanta Braves have also won three straight and have a batting lineup that is cooking right now.
Ryan Zimmerman has a 13-game hitting streak and Cristian Guzman has a 15-game hitting streak, Nyjer Morgan is batting .362 since he was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 30th and even Adam Dunn, who leads the team with 30 home runs, is finally hitting for average too (.281).
For the Braves, pitcher Tommy Hanson has been lights out since his call up, but baseball wagering sharps know that the Nationals have already seen Hanson once this year, which means they should have a better idea of what to expect.
The Betting Verdict
Lannan is the best that Washington have, but he has pitched much better at home than away this year, which is a concern for Tuesday.
At home, Lannan is 5-1 with a 1.98 ERA but on the road he’s 3-7 with a 5.62 ERA.
While the Nationals are hot right now, Lannan’s split stats indicate he’s not a great bet on Tuesday so stick with the Braves.
