Promoted side UCD got off to a flying start last week with a 3-0 win at Drogheda. They had been relegated 2 seasons ago and saw their Mangager Pete Mahon depart the club after he had done such a good job keeping them in the top flight for so long. Known for playing attractive football, Martin Russell took them over last season and won their first 6 games in the First Division including wins over fellow promotion candidates Shelbourne and Sporting Fingal.
They also finished strongly and despite being on a much less budget than a lot of the other sides in the league they went onto win the league and promotion in their first season after being relegated. However arguably their star player over the last number of seasons has moved on to Sporting Fingal in midfielder Ronan Finn. They only conceded 21 goals in 33 league games last season but they are back in the Premier Division this season and their defense will have a much tougher time.
Champions of the last two seasons, Bohs will be strong again this year and its hard to see them not challenging for the title again. They lost possibly their 2 most influential players of last season in Gary Deegan to Coventry and Keeper Brian Murphy to Ipswich but have got good replacements in former Shamrock Rovers Keeper Barry Murphy and Strikers Rafaele Cretaro from Sligo and Mark Quigley from St Patricks Athletic.
They were probably fortunate to beat Sporting Fingal last week after being awarded a controversial penalty late on but Pat Fenlon still has a very talented side and expect them to put in a much better show here. However they may have to do it without defender Jason Mcguinness who was carried off late in a Setanta Cup game injured at the weekend however Fenlon does have the best squad in the league and has strength in depth in most areas of the team.
VERDICT
BOHEMIANS TO WIN, they didnt play too well in their first league game but expect a better performance and another three points here.
Bohs are at 4/6 at Paddy Powers to win.
