English League Two
2010-09-04 - Chesterfield vs Lincoln City
A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter
Football : England : NPower League Two
Saturday 4th September 2010 – Kickoff 3pm
It’s off to the B2net Stadium this Saturday as home side Chesterfield will be no doubt looking forward to the visit of Lincoln City.
I say this as Chesterfield look to extend their unbeaten home run to six matches, while Lincoln City possess one of the worst away records in League Two – they have only won twice in their last fourteen trips (3-2 at Torquay United in March and 1-0 at Gillingham a couple of weeks ago).
Chesterfield (4th)
Chesterfield have started well this time around, and will be looking to at least reach the play-offs at the end of the season as they narrowly missed out last season, finishing 8th.
Ironically, it was Chesterfield's away form that let them down, something that Lincoln City can identify with – the Imps’ away record last season reads 4-4-15 17/39 as they flirted with relegation and finished 20th.
The Spireites started the 2010/11 season with a 2-1 win over Barnet at home, 1-1 away at Port Vale, a 4-0 win over Hereford United, and then grabbing a point in a 1-1 draw at Macclesfield Town.
A pivotal figure if they are to attain increased success this year is the form of former Nottingham Forest striker Jack Lester - a proven goalscorer in this division, scoring 23 goals, 20 goals and 11 goals & 5 assists in the last three seasons respectively.
Chesterfield are set to welcome back defender Ian Breckin and striker Jack Lester after they were rested in the midweek win over Walsall in Tuesday’s JP Trophy. Midfielder Danny Whittaker (3 goals, 1 assist) is also set to return, but defenders Rob Page and Gregor Robertson are both still sidelined, but are hoping to return soon.
Lincoln City (15th)
Now onto Lincoln City – as mentioned, their away record has been woeful but they did get a win at Gillingham a couple of weeks ago. However, they lost 1-2 away at Rotherham United on the opening day, lost 0-2 at home to Torquay United, and drew 1-1 when Crewe came to town.
Despite the Gillingham result, the visitors generally do not travel well and leak goals at the back especially when playing against stronger opposition; 1-3 at Aldershot Town, 1-3 at Notts County & 0-4 at Port Vale, using these examples from last season.
The Imps will be hoping Paul Green and Scott Kerr are fully fit following injury scares, whilst experienced defenders Jamie Clapham and Ian Pearce should both be fit to travel to Chesterfield.
However, midfielder Albert Jarrett (1 goal, 1 assist) is away on international duty with Sierra Leone, and Gavin McCallum & Mustapha Carayol are both sidelined.
The Betting Verdict :
The bookies have got the price wrong on this one in my opinion, and Chesterfield should be too strong at home against poor travellers Lincoln City.
BEST BETTING TIP :
Pick: Take Chesterfield to win at a generous price of 1.70+
