Spanish La Liga News :: Valencia cruise to 3-0 win over Mallorca

Valencia CF opened their La Liga campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory against RCD Mallorca, spearheaded by David Villa.

Villa, who signed a contract extension at Mestalla to end speculation about his future on Wednesday, celebrated his new deal by opening the scoring on 35 minutes when he turned in a cross with a close-range header.

The goalscorer then turned provider four minutes later, cutting in from the left wing and firing a shot that Miguel Moyá could only parry into the path of Juan Mata who headed in.

Argentinian forward Oscar Trejo hit the post immediately with the visitors' best effort but their fate was confirmed when Miguel Angel Angulo crossed for Vicente Rodríguez to score his first league goal since March 2007.
