English Premier News :: Spurs frustrate Chelsea in hardfought 1-1 draw

Darren Bent's strike earned Tottenham Hotspur a 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

Chelsea started the day looking for their third straight win at the start of the campaign while Tottenham were propping up the table after two reverses but there was little to choose between the sides throughout the contest.

Bent had an early shot blocked for the visitors after good work from Giovani Dos Santos while Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was called into action to tip Frank Lampard's chip over.

The hosts came closer still when Michael Essien's shot rattled the bar but they were not to be denied when, from the resulting corner, Belletti clipped in at the near post on 28 minutes.

Luiz Felipe Scolari's men looked comfortable for the remainder of the first 45 minutes but were stunned in the final stages of the half when Lampard's tackle diverted the ball into the path of Bent and the striker slid his shot under Petr Cech.

Ashley Cole fired a presentable chance wide shortly after the restart but both sides created little else thereafter to ensure Spurs earned their first point of the season while Chelsea remain top with seven points
