Punters everywhere will be passing on a little blessing to Sydney FC substitute Brendan Gan after his late winner against the luckless Newcastle Jets at EnergyAustralia Stadium !

Surprisingly, Sydney FC ($2.45) this round was one of the best-backed sides all season on Centrebet to beat the Jets ($2.75)! And for a while it looked as though we would have the last laugh, with the game locked at 1-1, and few punters backing the Draw, despite the good price of well over $3.00!

But up stepped Gan in the 78th minute to nail the winner - and punters collected big-time. One client outlayed nearly $20,000.00 alone on Sydney FC across four separate wagers. Talk about game, given Sydney's ordinary form coming in, but as we always say, fortune does favour the brave.

The Jets are now languishing on the bottom, and already counting the cost of a drama-filled season that's never really got going!

It wasn't all bleeding for us. We got a bit back when Melbourne Victory slumped to a shock 3-1 loss away to Perth Glory after punters had poured in behind the Victory sending them out a raging $2.00 favourite, with the Glory easing to a whopping $3.60.

Mind you, punters got out of the blocks well on Friday night, piling into Adelaide to beat Wellington, before the heavily-backed $1.70 favourite hit the Phoenix for six goals cruising to 2-0 halftime lead and a 6-1 win.

Betting on the A-League is really starting to hot up as we approach Christmas.

Adelaide has now moved into a $3.50 second-elect behind championship favourite Melbourne who have eased from $2.00 out to $2.85 after successive losses. Sydney FC is probably still the value at $6.00, although as we know, form in the A-League changes quicker than tropical weather.

The competition now goes into split rounds over the festive season, but the fixture everyone will have their eye on is the Melbourne Victory v Adelaide United clash at Telstra Dome on January 6.

This could well be the game that not only decides the minor premiership, but delivers the biggest pyschological "hold" before the finals.

Melbourne is still my tip to win the title, despite its run of outs, and just maybe this is the season the always-hoped-for Sydney-Melbourne showdown comes to the boil!
