A round-up of transfer rumours and gossip that's taken less than 24 hours to start-up.

WAYNE BRIDGE - CHELSEA TO MANCHESTER CITY?

Manchester City are in talks with Chelsea over a deal for Wayne Bridge, according to reports.

Mark Hughes is known to be a long-term admirer of the England international left-back and is expected to spend heavily in the January transfer window.

City are keen to improve their squad defensively, with the club's backline having failed to convince over the course of a season that has seen them concede 30 league goals to date.

JERMAINE PENNANT - LIVERPOOL TO HULL CITY?

Hull have joined the chase for Liverpool's out-of-favour winger Jermaine Pennant.

Pennant was heavily linked with a move to Spanish champions Real Madrid (according to his agent) but apparently priced himself out with heavy wage demands - WTF was he thinking?

Wigan, Tottenham and Stoke have all been linked to the 25-year-old, who has failed to impress in two-and-a-half years at Anfield, and now Hull have revealed their interest.

A move for Pennant this month would come 10 years after Arsenal made headlines by paying Notts County £2m for the then 15-year-old. He failed to fulfil his potential with the Gunners and later joined Birmingham before his £6.7m switch to Liverpool.

JERMAIN DEFOE - PORTSMOUTH TO ANYWHERE ?

Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie has admitted star striker Jermain Defoe has expressed an interest in leaving Fratton Park. "It looks like Jermain wants to go," he told the Portsmouth News. "That is something we will be speaking to him about."

The England international has been strongly linked with a January move back to Tottenham, where he would be reunited with Harry Redknapp.

However, Storrie insists that Pompey will not allow their £7.5m forward - who has also been linked with Aston Villa - to leave in a cut-price deal.
