English Premier News :: Jermain Defoe moves back to Tottenham

Portsmouth have accepted a bid from Tottenham to sign England striker Jermain Defoe on a five-year contract.

The transfer requires Premier League approval as there is a rule in place that prevents a club buying back a player in 12 months of a transfer.

The deal, which is expected to be worth about £15m, means Defoe returns to the club he left under a year ago. Harry Redknapp originally lured Defoe, 26, from White Hart Lane to Pompey for a deal worth up to £12m in 2008 when he was in charge at Fratton Park.

"Portsmouth can confirm a fee has been agreed with Tottenham for Jermain Defoe," read a statement from Pompey.
