English FA CUP News :: Irish bookmaker BoyleSports previews the FA Cup 5th Round ties

Posted on 2009-02-14 by BoyleSports

It's time again for the world's most famous cup competition, the English FA Cup, to take centre stage and there are a couple of juicy ties in prospect.

The pick of the bunch has to be the all Premier League encounter between Everton and Aston Villa. It is hard to describe how good a job both managers are doing at their respective clubs, but one thing is for sure both sets of supporters hold managers Moyes and O'Neill close to their hearts.

Goodison Park was a nightmare for Everton at the start of the season were they couldn't buy a win but that has all changed of late. The Toffees have been getting results without any recognised striker in the starting eleven which is remarkable in itself.

Jo cost Man City over £20m and it's a shrewd bit of business by Moyes to get him on loan until the end of the season. He scored twice on his debut and looks to have recaptured the form that made him such an expensive buy in the first place.

On the other hand Villa have one of the best away records in the league and they are a match for anybody with their quick counter attacking football. Agbonlahor and Young are playing with such freedom and confidence that opposing defences tremble when they see the sight of them coming at pace.

Some might say their squad isn't big enough to cope on all fronts for the remainder of the season; however, they have been extremely lucky with injuries so far. There is not an awful lot between the sides although I do feel Villa will hit Everton on the break and that's why I'm going for Aston Villa at 2/1 to progress to the next round.

Aston Villa and Everton are both 10/1 in the outright betting market at BoyleSports.

Blackburn are 18/1 for the Cup, and suffered their first defeat under the guidance of Big Sam last week in the league. The transformation under the former Newcastle and Bolton boss has been unbelievable. Although the Cup does have the tendency to throw up at shock, it won't be happening at Ewood Park. Coventry are 125/1 to win the FA Cup and are a mid table outfit from the Championship and their cup run will come to an abrupt end today.

Although it doesn't offer great value, you won't find a bank in the land that will give you over 50% on your investment for 90 minutes so get on Blackburn at 8/13 to beat Coventry.

Another young manger who has settled in very quickly to his new surroundings is Gianfranco Zola at West Ham (16/1). Players are now starting to believe in themselves and the performances on the pitch are showing just that. One player who I must mention here is Carlton Cole. His career seemed to be going round in circles until the Italian took over in the East End of London. A call up to the full England squad was his reward and there are many more to come for him I'm sure.

Middlesbrough (33/1) are a club in dire need of a result to lift their spirits. They have one of the best Chairmen in the business that constantly stands by and bank rolls his mangers. In the transfer window I am baffled that Borough didn't bring in some experience to help their very talented bunch of younger players at the Riverside.

Many feel that Southgate's number is up but I feel he will be given until the end of the season to prove his worth. Home advantage is pivotal in this tie and that is why I am going for West Ham to progress to the quarter-final at odds of 5/6.
