It's all in the balance now as Milan risk losing automatic Champions League qualification after an epic 3-2 defeat to Roma.

Roma took the lead on 36 minutes with a rocket from John Arne Riise. The free kick just outside the box was rolled across for his fierce strike into the top corner that Dida could do nothing about.

Milan went so close to an equaliser when Pato ran on to Beckham's cross and had beaten Artur, but Marco Motta bravely flung himself at the shot for a crucial goalline clearance.

Inzaghi wanted a penalty for a collision with Inzaghi in the Roma box, but the referee waved play on. The striker was furious, as Juan had slipped and was on the ground, but he lifted his leg as Inzaghi tried to go past and tripped up on the Brazilian's feet. It could easily have been a penalty.

Milan broke through eventually with Ambrosini. Artur had managed to parry the initial close-range strike from Inzaghi on Kaka's assist, but could do nothing on Ambro's follow-up.

However, Milan were going for the victory and left themselves completely unbalanced. Jeremy Menez ran on to Riise's smart ball and scored for Roma when he placed an angled drive into the far corner past Dida.

The lead lasted all of one minute, as Kaka's first-time pass into the centre with the inside of his right foot found Ambrosini only just in play to tap in unmarked from six yards.

It all turned around again soon after, as Pizarro touched a free kick for Francesco Totti, whose right-foot screamer beat Dida at the far bottom corner to restore Roma's advantage, 3-2 at San Siro.
