Tennis News :: All Russian final set for Ladies French Open

Svetlana Kuznetsova will play top seed Dinara Safina in an all-Russian final at the French Open on Saturday.

The Fed Cup team-mates both gained expected victories in the last four on Thursday, seeing off surprise packages Samantha Stosur and Dominika Cibulkova respectively.

Kuznetsova struggled to close out her clash with Australian Stosur as the seventh seed did things the hard way before emerging a winner in three sets 6-4 6-7 (5/7) 6-3.

Safina returned to the French Open final with a straight sets 6-3 6-3 win over Cibulkova.

Safina, who finished runner-up last year, edged a match which was tighter than the score suggested, ending her Slovakian opponent's impressive run at Roland Garros.

Safina's victory was her 20th on clay from 21 outings this season.

She will now look to improve that statistic against Kuznetsova, but her compatriot is the one player who has managed to beat her on the red dirt in 2009.

That was in the final in Stuttgart, a defeat avenged a week later in Rome. Overall, Safina leads their series 7-5, but Kuznetsova has a 4-3 advantage on clay.
