PREVIEW
Baltimore are now 22-14 after their split in the 2 game series at home against the Yankees, and now travel to play Kansas City, who despite being just 14-20 are suddenly on a bit of a hot streak. The Orioles gave up a bunch of runs a few nights ago and we were able to land an easy Overs bet, and tonight they will likely do the same. Kansas City have now won 4 straight games, and 6 of their last 7. Their 4 game streak has seen them outscore opponents 24-5. I'll take the home team.
The Orioles go with Tommy Hunter, who is 2-2 with a 5.14ERA, and he is being absolutely shelled in recent games. His last 6 games have seen him give up 10 homers. On the road, where he has made 3 starts, it gets worse. In 16 innings he has allowed 7 homers, and his ERA is 9.56 in those games! His last start saw him allow 4 runs in 6 innings against Texas on Thursday, the same Texas this Kansas City outfit just beat yesterday!
The Royals go with Felipe Paulino, owner of a 1-1 record and a 3.09ERA. His first start of the season saw him throw 6 scoreless innings but his last start wasn't as good, allowing 4 runs in just under 6 innings against the Chicago White Sox. I'm going with the first start, because that came at home, the only one at home, and it was against the very dangerous New York Yankees. He blanked them, and the bullpen helped too, as the Royals won 5-1.
Kansas City seem to do well recently against Baltimore when they are the hosts, which is why I am not surprised to see them as favourites here. Over the last 9 meetings where Kansas City are at home, they have won 7 times.
BETTING VERDICT
Kansas City's pitching is far superior at the moment. The bullpen has been rock solid in recent games. The Royals have won 6 of their last 7 matches, and the bullpen has worked 26 innings in that time, giving up just 3 runs. From start to finish, we have a team capable of seriously limiting Baltimores scoring, while a weak Orioles pitcher means the Royals should continue their hot streak of scoring, as they are averaging 8 a game through their last 4.
