They have been called the best team in the Major League and the Milwaukee Brewers (75-44) have moved clear not only in the National League Central, but for the Number 1 Seed in the entire National League.
For the second time this season, the Brewers have put together a winning run of at least eleven games and they have become the first National League team to do that in ninety years.
The only real concern that fans may have is peaking too early, but Milwaukee are only thinking about putting their best Baseball on the field every day and seeing where they land. They will be going for a sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates (51-70) after battering one of the strongest pitchers in the entire Major League and the momentum is firmly with the Brewers right now.
They will give the ball to Brandon Woodruff who has had an injury hit last few seasons having looked like developing into a key part of the starting rotation. Despite the long layoff and the injuries that have piled up, Brandon Woodruff has returned to the big Leagues with a 4-0 record and 2.29 ERA in six starts made this season.
He has yet to give up more than two runs in any start and Woodruff has really impressed by working his way through multiple Innings. In his two starts in August, Brandon Woodruff has completed 13 Innings to allow just four runs and he has earned the decision win each time thanks to the powerful batting performances.
Brandon Woodruff has a 7-3 record and 3.40 ERA in seventeen appearances against this Divisional rival, but has not seen the Pittsburgh Pirates since 2023.
The Pirates will counter by handing the ball to Mitch Keller who has a 5-10 record in twenty-four starts made this season, but with a 3.86 ERA which is tracking to be his career best when a regular starter.
Mitch Keller is unbeaten in eight starts for the Pittsburgh Pirates and has a 4-0 record with a 3.50 ERA in that time. Even when he has taken some early knocks in those outings, the Pirates batting lineup have stepped up to the plate to turn things around and so there will be a confidence around this pitcher.
Earlier this season he held the Milwaukee Brewers to a single run in 6 Innings thrown, but that was also back in May and the National League Central leaders look a different proposition now. Overall Mitch Keller has a 1-5 record and 4.99 ERA in ten career starts against Milwaukee having not been involved in the decision in the one outing against them this season.
Milwaukee have outscored Pittsburgh 21-1 in the two games played in this series to improve to 6-3 against them in the season series.
Prediction
The performances of Brandon Woodruff have really impressed, but also surprised considering how long he has spent away from the Major League through injury.
He will be looking to give Milwaukee the platform to sweep this series and will be well supported by a batting lineup that have really got the scoreboard operator working hard in the first two games.
Mitch Keller will have something to say about that and had a very good start against the Brewers back in May, but he will have seen what happened to Paul Skenes and the road team may secure another comfortable win.
