Preview
They have scored the opening runs in the first two games of this Divisional Round Series on the road and the Chicago Cubs batting lineup made another fast start in Game 3 when tagging up four runs at the bottom of the First Inning. This time the Cubs were able to hold on with some late big time Outs recorded by the bullpen and that has forced a Game 4.
Eight of the ten runs that the Cubs have scored in this Divisional Round Series have been scored in the First Inning, but they do need more from the lineup as the game develops. They have seen that the Brewers are not only capable of fighting back, but the National League Central Divisional Winners have the confidence to find the big Hits when needed, even if that eluded them in their bid for the sweep.
The bottom of the order let them down in Game 3, but overall this is a Milwaukee team that have consistency from one through nine to find the right plate performances to put the team in with a chance of winning.
Milwaukee are going to be giving the ball to Freddy Peralta in Game 4- at least that is the lean without an official starter being named- and he had a solid Game 1 outing to build up the confidence. The regular season performances were solid, but Playoff pressure is where a pitcher really wants to prove himself and Freddy Peralta held the Cubs to two runs in almost 6 Innings completed.
Freddy Peralta pitched twice at Wrigley Field in the regular season and allowed three runs in 5 Innings thrown in the first of those before keeping the Cubs scoreless through 7 Innings in the second.
Another Game 1 starter will be heading to the mound for the Chicago Cubs and Matthew Boyd is at least competing on a more regular rest. He was unable to get out of the First Inning last Saturday and Boyd was charged with two earned runs and six runs overall as he was handed the decision loss.
Redemption will be on the mind of the veteran, but he did finish the regular season with a 6.08 ERA from the last seven starts made. After containing the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card Round, Matthew Boyd was roughed up against the Milwaukee Brewers and that does extend a period of relatively poor form.
Matthew Boyd allowd four runs and was withdrawn in the Sixth Inning when pitching against the Brewers in this ballpark during the regular season.
Prediction
Credit the Chicago Cubs for doing just enough to push for a Game 4 in this Divisional Round Series, but they are still under a lot of pressure.
The batting lineup have not put together enough runs to ever feel comfortable and the Brewers will feel that they were a Hit or two away from completing the sweep.
We are back to Game 1 starters for this Game 4 and you have to believe the Milwaukee Brewers consistency up and down the batting lineup will pay off for them.
As long as Freddy Peralta can get through the First Inning without too much damage, he can get into a rhythm to largely contain the hosts and Milwaukee should have the bigger moments to secure the victory.
Prop bettors would have been rewarded with the Jackson Chourio and Nico Hoerner Over 1.5 Total Bases double in Game 3 and that is priced up at 4.25 to happen again. Both are capable of multiple Hits in any game, while also making enough contact to put Doubles and Home Runs on the board and they are likely to pick up another At-Bats to have a chance of getting this angle back in the winner's enclosure.
