It has been stated time and time again that the Major League Playoffs can be a lot more erratic than the other North American sports because there are really the most fine of inches between a win and a loss.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have fallen 0-3 behind in the National League Championship Series, but things could have been so different in Game 3 as they bid to halve the deficit against the Milwaukee Brewers.
A two run Double had just been hit by Will Smith, which meant the Dodgers had two players in scoring position and with only one Out recorded. The Brewers turned to the bullpen and DL Hall came out and Struck Out two batters in a row to ensure his team were only a single run behind rather than the Dodgers blowing things open.
Manager Dave Roberts has led the Dodgers to back to back World Series, but failed to use that lead to take Blake Snell out of the game and three batters later his team were trailing by two runs. Milwaukee added a couple more runs before the end of the game and all of a sudden the Brewers are in a position to earn redemption for 2025 in the exact same fashion in which the Los Angeles Dodgers eliminated them.
Sweeping this National League Championship Series would be a huge surprise, but the Milwaukee Brewers are playing with confidence and have had the better of the Dodgers in all aspects of the Series. The starting pitcher crew have been better, the bullpen has been better, but most surprising is that a team with the second fewest Home Runs in the regular season have had five in this Series, while the Dodgers and the power batting have yet to clear the fences.
All of the pressure is on Tyler Glasnow who starts Game 4 for the two time defending Champions and the experienced pitcher managed to get into the 5th Inning after allowing a single run in the Divisional Round against the Atlanta Braves. Last season he held the Milwaukee Brewers to a single run into the 6th Inning, but Manager Dave Roberts might be a little more careful with the starter considering the season is on the line and after hearing the criticism for not pulling Blake Snell until the damage had been done on Wednesday.
Tyler Glasnow did not face the Milwaukee Brewers in the regular season and is going to be playing as a traditional starter, while the Number 1 Seed are going with the bullpen to try and close the show.
An Opener has not been announced, but the Brewers will have a great amount of confidence in those coming out of the bullpen considering what they have seen in this post-season run.
Support from a batting lineup that has found its rhythm at the right time of the season could be key as Milwaukee look to avoid prolonging this Series any more than necessary.
Prediction
If the Milwaukee Brewers can get after Tyler Glasnow early, they will certainly feel they have the edge once the bullpens both come into play.
This is expected to be a game in which there are a number of changes made by the road team as they look for the relievers to help them through and all of the momentum is with Milwaukee.
One big Hit was needed for the Los Angeles Dodgers to turn this Series around in Game 3, but they missed their chances and there is a real concern that it is too late for the batting lineup. Key players are not performing, but the Dodgers are getting on base and they can contribute in a Game 4 that may have enough runs to cover this total line set.
