2012-09-29 - Charlton Athletic vs Blackburn Rovers
A Sports Betting Pick by Lamps
Football : England : Championship
Saturday 29th September - Kickoff 3:00pm
Charlton
Chris Powell's Charlton responded well to a poor run of form to win at Ipswich last time out. The win means Charlton have moved up into 18th place but are only 2 points above the drop zone.
Charlton opened the season 3 unbeaten only to then lose the next 3 against Forest (2-1), Palace (0-1) and Derby (3-2). However last weekend the Addicks beat another struggling side in Ipswich at Portman Road in 1-2 win.
At the Valley it's a mixed bag of results for the current League One champions. They opened with a huge win over Leicester (2-1), drew with Hull (0-0) and then lost (0-1) to notorious poor travellers Palace.
In 2 of the 3 home games Charlton have been shut out and that's a concern yet they have scored in every away game this season. The last 2 games have been shootouts going over 2.50 goals as Powell has let his side attack. Against Rovers this may be the best way to play them given that Kean will set his side out to attack.
Blackburn
3rd placed Rovers are playing well despite having their home fans almost against them every time they play. The fans all hate Kean which I think is unfair but then again I don't watch Rovers each week.
Last Friday Rovers lost for the first time in the division as a classy Boro won 1-2 at Ewood. Blackburn weren't poor, but were just beaten by the better side on the night.
Away from Ewood despite scoring a huge 9 goals in 3 games Rovers have only won once in three. Rovers drew 1-1 at Ipswich and also 3-3 at Leeds before finally winning a thriller at Bristol 3-5!
With Rhodes and Gomes up front this is possibly the best striking duo in the league. Blackburn will always score goals in the Championship, last Friday they didn't create much for 80 minutes. Then all of a sudden scored and wasted another at the death. As a result this side should go close come May to top spot bar an injury in particular to Rhodes.
Betting Verdict
Rovers are priced much higher than I was expecting for this one. Charlton won well last week but they seem to be struggling at the Valley. I think Rovers are a very solid wager but I will stick to their team goals instead.
Rovers to score 2 is odds against and with 9 goals already this year at an average of 3 a game on their travels. I fully expect them to score at least 2.
Last Friday they were poor and still scored once. Charlton are no Boro and I think Powell's defence won't be able to contain that Blackburn front 2.
A fear is that the hosts shut up shop but I don't think it's in Powell's nature. Rovers to continue the scoring in a most likely away win for me.
Good Luck
The Pick :
Charlton 1-2 Blackburn
