Rayo Vallecano travel to Bilbao looking to beat their hosts for the first time since the turn of the Millenium, having only won here once in their last 13 trips.
The visit might be at just the right time, for Rayo are actually on a 3 game winning streak, while Bilbao have lost 2 straight games.
Athletic Bilbao ended 2012 with a 2-0 loss to visiting Zaragoza and started the year just as badly, losing 3-1 at Levante. The visitors, who are 7 points ahead and in 7th place, ended last year with a 1-0 win at Valencia and a 3-0 home win over Levante, and have not missed a beat in beginning 2013 with a convincing 3-0 win against Getafe. the difference in form is clear.
I donʼt understand how Bilbao can be odds on for this match, despite playing at home. Sure, their last meeting was a 3-2 win at Rayo but that was in January last year, ages back. Right now they suck, and Rayo are confident and playing well. I find it preposterous to see the visitors priced at 4.30!
At the very least, a lay against Bilbao must be the bet here, because I canʼt see them beating the visitors, who donʼt seem to have a problem scoring, netting 3 in their last 2 games each, while managing to show defensive skill at blanking Valencia in Valencia.
THE BETTING VERDICT
Iʼm very tempted to take on the 4.30 on Rayo Vallecano winning but will stick to the safer bet by taking them on the AH to not lose this game.
