SEASON FORM
Wellington Phoenix : 4W 4D 7L Points 16 --- HOME 3W 2D 2L 9:7
Western Sydney :::: 7W 2D 6L Points 23 --- AWAY 3W 1D 2L 5:3
Previous Encounter :
These team have only met once with the Phoenix winning 1-0 at home on December 2nd, 2012 - and it was Jeremy Brockie that got the only goal - a wind assisted effort that totally fooled the visiting goalkeeper.
Wellington Phoenix (9th)
Big news midweek for the Phoenix is the signing of much needed defender, as Ian Hogg has a contract until the end of the season - stepping up from the local ASB Premiership which is part-time football at best.
This signing is a stop gap measure that probably will have fellow All White Tony Lochhead looking over his shoulder in regard to the starting eleven.
Andrew Durante, Ben Sigmund will continue to command the centre, but lets hope that a new wide defender will shore up the Phoenix’s leaky defence.
No goals for Jeremy Brockie last time out against the Victory, but I think he could make the score sheet in this match, though the Wanderers hard man Beauchamp returning from suspension might have something to say about that.
This game sees the return of fellow striker Tyler Boyd (suspension) but Ifill is out for a month or two, and midfield maestro Muscat is still suspended.
Western Sydney Wanderers (4th)
Western Sydney will be wanting to exact revenge from the Phoenix after their last encounter and the return of some key players may just help them overcome a Phoenix side that is low on confidence.
Skipper Michael Beauchamp, winger Youssouf Hersi and midfielder Mateo Poljak all back in contention for a start in this match.
Unfortunately for the Wanderers the squad, midfielder Jason Trifiro is side-lined due to a card in the last match.
Joey Gibbs is their only fit recognised striker, and this may be truth behind why they are not scoring the goals they need to.
The Betting Verdict
As unpredictable the draw bet is I reckon there is a scoring draw in this one, both teams will be at each other, and neither Beauchamp or Sigmund will be holding back.
But ultimately, I think that the Phoenix can get something from this match - and the Wanderers will not pick up the 3 points they are expecting form this match.
The Pick :
Wellington Phoenix 1 - 1 Western Sydney
