West Ham United
West Ham United needed a 96th minute Payet freekick to see off Accrington (1-0) in the EFL Cup midweek. The win none the less is a welcome one to Bilic's side who have dropped down into 17th place in the Premier League table.
West Ham have lost their last 3 league games and 4/5 all season. Their solitary win came in a narrow 1-0 victory at home against Bournemouth who were reduced to 10 men.
In the Hammers other home game defensively they were a shambles as Watford put 4 past them in 2-4 victory. The Hammers have kept just 1 clean sheet all season conceding 13 goals in 5 games including 4 against a toothless West Brom side last weekend.
Southampton
Southampton saw off Crystal Palace (2-0) midweek in their EFL Cup tie in fairly straight forward fashion. This win follows their first league success last Sunday where the Saints saw off Swansea (1-0). Both wins were at home and now Puel's side need to replicate that form on the road at West Ham.
The Saints are winless away from home but have been given some tough fixtures to start the season. Losing at Man United (0-2) and Arsenal (2-1) is nothing to be a ashamed of and the latter was thanks to a very late Arsenal penalty.
Southampton have scored in 4/5 games this season and 4 of the last 5 away games. Defensively they haven't kept an away clean sheet in 8 games with 4/5 ending with both teams scoring.
Betting Verdict
This game should have goals in it between 2 sides who will look to attack. West Ham at home will push for all 3 points to kick start their domestic season, whilst Southampton's away games tend to have a lot of goals.
West Ham have scored in 13 straight Premier League home games but have conceded 6/7 at home. The Saints don't keep many clean sheets but have found scoring easy to come by on their travels.
The fear is a 1-1 scoreline but I will take the over 2.50 goals. In the last 4 meetings since Southampton's return to the top flight both teams have scored in all 4 with all 4 going over 2.50 goals.
The Hammers have 1 or 2 niggle/injuries at the back and I fully expect Southampton to get chances. The home fans won't allow the hosts to sit back and this should be an open game on Sunday afternoon.
Good Luck
