Atalanta continued their impressive sequence of results in the season run-in of the Italian top flight by recording a 3-2 win away from home at Genoa last weekend which not only became a fifth win in six games but also extended their unbeaten run overall in Serie A to six matches.
Recent victories against Bologna, AC Milan, Monza, Roma and Genoa have secured another top four finish for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side and therefore another appearance in next season’s Champions League and the hosts will be looking to put the cream on top of what has been another successful campaign on Sunday evening.
With just one more game remaining in this season’s campaign and seven points ahead of their nearest rivals 4th placed Juventus, Atalanta now cannot be caught and with an overall home record of 9-5-4 34/21 under their belts, La Dea look set to end their season at the Gewiss Stadium on a winning note.
Parma gained what could prove to be a crucial point at home to Napoli last weekend when they held the Serie A league leaders to a 0-0 draw on home soil at their Stadio Ennio Tardini.
However, that result was not enough to prevent the visitors from slipping further down the Serie A table to 16th place where they hold a slender two-point cushion above third from bottom club Empoli ahead of this final weekend of the Serie A season.
Parma therefore need to produce a result of some sort at the Gewiss Stadium this Sunday but the bigger picture shows Cristian Chivu’s side have managed to capture just two wins within their last 19 games overall in the domestic top flight.
Both wins were registered on home soil at their Stadio Ennio Tardini while also being handed eight defeats in the process as well; but it has been a severe lack of wins on the road that has continued to hold back Parma’s plans of securing Serie A survival as the visitors have picked up just one win on their travels all season.
