England
The fans who travelled to Barcelona made their feelings clear at the conclusion of England's tepid 0-1 win over Andorra and they will be encouraged by hearing plenty of criticism of the team from new manager Thomas Tuchel. The previous manager may not have been as forthcoming with that criticism and it is clear that Tuchel is only thinking about the World Cup and achieving success next summer.
With that in mind, England's three points in Andorra have put them in complete control of the World Cup Qualifying Group and that is a positive, even if the performance was incredibly below par. The other four teams in the section will be looking to close the gap to England who have maximum points after three games, but finishing above this team in this section is going to be incredibly difficult.
England will be back in World Cup duty in September when facing Andorra and Serbia in the space of a few days, but Thomas Tuchel has a few more days to work with his squad as they conclude the season at the City Ground in Nottingham. The team have won 8 of 9 games played in all competitions since losing the Euro 2024 Final to Spain.
Bukayo Saka was surprisingly left out of the squad on Saturday, but the manager has spoken about him starting on Tuesday. Some changes have to be expected to utilise the squad and allow other players to impress after so many underperformed against Andorra.
Senegal
If England are already making plans behind the scenes about taking part at the World Cup Finals next summer, things are looking much tougher for Senegal even with the expanded places being offered to those playing in the CAF Confederation. The World Cup Qualifiers will conclude later this year and that has allowed Senegal to take on a couple of European opponents in June.
Last time out, Senegal were held to a 1-1 draw by the Republic of Ireland in an international friendly and they will continue preparation for the resumption of the World Cup Qualifiers in September. Only one place per Group is offered to a nation to take part in North America next summer, but Senegal are 2nd behind DR Congo and level on points with Sudan as a single point covers the three of them.
Senegal will be facing both of those rivals in September and they will be looking to enter those World Cup Qualifiers by extending their unbeaten run to 22 games in all competitions. Most of those matches have been played against fellow African nations, although Senegal did thump Brazil 4-2 in an international friendly in Lisbon in June 2023.
Head to Head
The sole previous meeting between England and Senegal was in the 2022 World Cup Second Round and ended 3-0 in favour of the English.
Prediction
International friendly games can be very tough to read and it does feel like England are a touch short in the market with the expected changes and likely end of season feel to the game.
Senegal have plenty of players in their squad that will want to upset England with their Premier League experience meaning bragging rights can be earned ahead of the pre-season. They made some changes for the 1-1 draw with Ireland last time out, but Senegal could choose to select a stronger starting lineup here.
They are usually well organised and Senegal have proven tough to beat, while they will carry a threat on the counter.
England will be expected to produce a much better performance than they did against Andorra where the team had to listen to criticisms from both inside and outside of the camp.
This could encourage this fixture to be a little more attacking and backing at least three goals to be scored could be worth a small interest.
