Football : Europe: Conference League 3rd Qual Rnd - 1st leg
Venue: Steponas Darius and Stasys Girenas
Thursday 7th August 2025, 1700hrs (GMT)
Lithuanian hosts Kauno Žalgiris will be looking to extend their current promising run of results in all competitions when they play host to Bulgarian visitors Arda, when the two teams face-off at the Steponas Darius and Stasys Girenas on Thursday evening.
Kauno Žalgiris currently sit top of the Lithuanian A Lyga table with a six-point buffer between themselves and 2nd placed Hegelmann while on the European front, Eivinas Cerniauskas’s side have now reached the 3rd qualifying round of this season’s Conference League competition.
A 4-1 win on aggregate against Welsh Cymru Premier side Penybont in the 1st qualifying round was followed by despatching Iceland side Valur 3-2 on aggregate in the 2nd qualifying round, so the Lithuanian hosts will fancy their chances of securing a result here.
In addition, Kauno Žalgiris bring an impressive 18-match unbeaten sequence in all competitions into this 1st leg tie which includes picking up no fewer than 14 wins in the process.
The new Bulgarian domestic top flight season has only just got underway with Arda producing a mixed bag of results thus far; a win, draw and a loss see the visitors currently occupying 7th place in the Parva Liga but the visitors have battled through to the 3rd qualifying round of the Conference League.
Arda had previously beaten CSKA Sofia 4-1 on penalties in the domestic Conference League play-off final at the end of last season which saw Alexander Tunchev’s side enter the competition at the 2nd round qualifying stage where they also prevailed on penalties against Finnish outfit, HJK.
However, this is only the second time that Arda have featured on the European stage having previously reached the 2nd qualifying round of this competition back in the 2021/22 season when they were soundly beaten 6-0 on aggregate by Israeli side Hapoel Beer Sheva.
The Betting Verdict
Kauno Žalgiris have been a tough side to beat in all competitions and with home advantage here, the hosts look set to at least avoid defeat.
