Strasbourg will be aiming to make it two wins on the trot in competitive football on Thursday night when the French Ligue 1 hosts entertain Danish visitors Brondby at their Stade de la Meinau after producing a winning start in the French top flight over the weekend.
Indeed, Liam Rosenior’s side registered a 1-0 win away from home at Metz on the opening day of the new Ligue 1 campaign and although Strasbourg produced a somewhat mixed bag of results during pre-season, the hosts will be in confident mood ahead of this 1st leg tie on Thursday night.
Strasbourg picked up two wins, a draw but also two losses in their warm-up games but victories gained over Nancy and Sturm Graz in the close season should give the hosts reason to feel good about their chances in this opening leg.
Brondby have also made a positive start to their domestic top flight season as Frederik Birk Christensen’s side occupy 2nd place in the Danish Superliga table having collected four wins within their opening five matches of the new campaign.
Domestic wins against Silkeborg, Nordsjaelland, Vejle and Randers respectively have been further boosted by a 2-1 win on aggregate against Faroe Islands outfit HB Torshavn and Icelandic side Vikingur 4-3 on aggregate, the latter being down to a 4-0 home win in the 2nd leg!
However, of their two away legs so far in the UEFA Conference League during the qualifying stage, Brondby have yet to register a win as they drew 1-1 at HB Torshavn and were dealt a heavy 3-0 loss on the road at Vikingur.
