Everton
Some of the officiating was questioned by David Moyes and the frustration really built up after he lost an important player to a suspension for picking up five yellow cards already. That came during the 1-1 draw with West Ham United where Everton had led, but failed to score the decisive second goal before having to hang on for a point.
Another point on the board means Everton are up into 9th place in the Premier League table and fans will feel that a challenge for European places within the Division is the minimum aim for the team. They had made a perfect start to life at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but Everton are now 2-1-0 here in the Premier League with 3 goals scored and 1 conceded.
A much changed Everton team were disappointingly dumped out of the League Cup Third Round at struggling Wolves, which did not go down well with the travelling fans, and they have failed to win any of their last 4 games since the September international break. The Toffees opened the season with consecutive 2-0 home wins in their new Stadium against Brighton and Mansfield Town, but have since drawn with Aston Villa and West Ham United.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has made a positive impact since arriving at Everton, but he is going to be suspended for one game. Jarrad Branthwaite is hoping the international break gives him enough time to return to the squad.
Crystal Palace
It has been six months of 'firsts' for Crystal Palace and a first European away win has been secured for the Club when beating Dynamo Kyiv on the continent, albeit in Poland rather than Ukraine. Oliver Glasner's team are the favourites to win the Conference League amidst a really strong run of form and the only concern for the fans is that the manager has yet to sign a contract extension.
Those concerns grow with several reports placing Oliver Glasner at the top of any future Manchester United manager shortlist if the latter dismiss Ruben Amorim. Oliver Glasner himself is not going to be involved in any of those discussions with the media and his players are not showing signs of distraction with Crystal Palace up into 3rd place in the Premier League table having secured 12 points. The Eagles may a trip to the North West with a 2-1-0 away record in the top flight.
Crystal Palace are now unbeaten in 19 games in all competitions, but most importantly they have won 3 games in a row to build up some momentum. That includes the very late winner against Champions Liverpool last weekend, while Crystal Palace have won consecutive away Premier League games at Aston Villa and West Ham United.
Only a couple of changes were made to the starting eleven for the win over Dynamo Kyiv on Thursday.
Head to Head
Last season was a hugely successful one for Crystal Palace, but they were beaten twice by Everton by the same 2-1 scoreline.
Recent visits to Goodison Park have been tough for Crystal Palace fans with the team having lost 7 of their last 9 trips to that famous old ground and failing to win any of the last 11.
Prediction
One of the big questions around this Crystal Palace squad is how they are going to cope with the additional commitments of playing European Football alongside the Premier League?
Last season Chelsea were able to play a second string squad in the early stages of the Conference League, but Oliver Glasner's men do not have that same depth and luxury to rotate.
The players produced another quality performance in beating Dynamo Kyiv on Thursday, but it was a strong Crystal Palace team and you do have to wonder about the energy levels for this difficult away test.
Crystal Palace have not won any of their last 11 visits to Goodison Park and they will be hoping Everton's move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium also means a change in the record at the home of The Toffees.
David Moyes' team have made a solid start to the season, although the absence of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is a blow for this fixture. Jack Grealish will provide a constant menace for the away team, but Everton are still perhaps lacking something in the final third and losing a player with the creativity and running of Dewsbury-Hall is a blow against a confident visiting team.
Everton dropped points at their new home for a second Premier League game in a row on Monday night and some West Ham United fans will feel they deserved more.
This is something that will slightly concern David Moyes with Everton looking a little out of sync defensively and still having to play without Jarrad Branthwaite.
The home record against Crystal Palace has to serve as a source of inspiration, and Everton did beat them twice last season.
However, this is a visiting team playing with a complete confidence and faith in the system Oliver Glasner has put in place and Crystal Palace may defend well enough to only need one goal to avoid a loss and extend the unbeaten run to a round 20 games before the October international break.
