I have a deep feeling that RB Leipzig will miss out on the Champions League football next season. Don’t know how to explain it, but something tells me they will be utterly disappointed at the end of this season.
RB Leipzig currently sits 5th in the Bundesliga, only three points behind fourth-placed VfB Stuttgart and third-placed TSG Hoffenheim, but to me, both teams above them are much, much better than RB Leipzig this season.
RB Leipzig’s recent mini-series of two wins got interrupted by a 1-0 defeat to VfB Stuttgart last weekend. That was their first defeat after five unbeaten games in a row (three wins, two draws).
RB Leipzig is a solid home team, but lately, they have been shaky. They lost two and drew two of their last five at home, and were also not very convincing in their latest 2-1 home win over Augsburg.
TSG Hoffenheim
Following their 0-1 home defeat against St.Pauli, TSG Hoffenheim also dropped valuable points in the UEFA Champions League race against Wolfsburg last week. The 1-1 draw left their coach Ilzer angry, and a proper response is now expected.
However, there is a good pattern and positive signs for TSG Hoffenheim. Their tally of 50 points after 26 Bundesliga games is a club record.
Here’s an interesting fact – all 14 Bundesliga teams that had 50 points at this stage over the last five Bundesliga seasons went on to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
So, TSG Hoffenheim are very close to achieving their dream if they keep collecting points at the same pace.
Regarding away performances, TSG Hoffenheim have been excellent all season long. They lost only twice in their 13 away games, as you would expect – only against Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
The Betting Verdict
These two sides’ numbers are almost even – what differentiates them is that TSG Hoffenheim is a better scoring side, having won one more game than RB Leipzig.
This should be an open game, with strong chances on both ends, as you would expect from two potent teams battling for the Champions League spots.
I would not back any side to win, although I believe TSG Hoffenheim can remain unbeaten here.
Instead, I recommend taking a combo bet of both teams to score and over 2.5 goals in this match.
