A third draw on the trot in the Championship by way of a 1-1 draw away from home at relegation strugglers Blackburn Rovers proved to be enough to confirm Coventry City’s long-awaited automatic promotion back up to the Premier League and the Sky Blues will now be wanting to put the icing on the cake by securing the Championship league title.
Frank Lampard’s side possess a commanding 10-point lead over 2nd placed Ipswich Town at the time of writing thanks to being dealt just the single loss in their last 13 league matches which includes the west midlands club collecting eight wins in the process.
Four of these recent eight wins have been achieved on home soil at their CBS Arena with victories against Middlesbrough, Stoke City, Preston NE and Derby County respectively while an impressive home record which stands at 15-4-2 43/17 has no doubt contributed to Coventry’s success this term.
Portsmouth took a big step towards securing their Championship status for another term on the weekend when the south coast club recorded a third league win on the trot with a massive 1-0 home win over Leicester City which in turn edged The Foxes closer to the relegation precipice.
Previous wins against the likes of Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town were not only impressive victories for a side who had failed to win any of their preceding nine games but has also given John Mousinho’s side a great chance of avoiding relegation.
It’s important to note though that the latter two wins were both achieved on home soil at Fratton Park but an away record of 5-7-9 20/35 suggests Pompey are likely to struggle against an in-form and jubilant Coventry City outfit.
The Betting Verdict
Coventry City have won the last two meetings on the trot against Portsmouth.
The Pick :
Coventry City 2-1 Portsmouth
