Queen of the South stretched their stubborn looking run of games without a defeat to a total of seven following last week’s 1-1 draw away from home at Peterhead which in turn gave Saturday’s upcoming hosts a useful seven-point cushion over last week’s 5th placed opponents.

Montrose’s hopes of gaining a possible play-off spot have well and truly gone out of the proverbial window in recent weeks as Stewart Petrie’s side have slumped to three defeats on the trot, leaving The Gable Endies sitting in 6th place and nine points behind Queen of the South.
Recent losses at the hands of Cove Rangers, Kelty Hearts and Hamilton Academical have all but done for Montrose who have managed to capture just two wins from their last nine league matches in the Scottish third tier.
Throw in a poor looking away record of 3-6-8 21/31 as well, and you can see that the prospects of Montrose achieving a surprise win here at Palmerston Park looks decidedly unlikely, especially as they’ve failed to win any of their last six outings on the road.
