Arsenal
There was real anger in the Arsenal camp after the 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Semi Final First Leg, but the result in Spain means they remain strong favourites to reach only a second ever Final. Some of the officiating was not well received, but Arsenal have to refocus and turn the attention back to the Premier League title race.
The nearest challengers were involved in the FA Cup Semi Final last weekend and the broadcasters have picked games in a manner where Arsenal play before Manchester City this weekend.
This offers The Gunners a chance to move 6 points clear at the top of the Division, albeit having played two more games than Manchester City. However, it is points that matter more than games in hand at this stage of the season and Arsenal will be concentrated on the two big fixtures to be played at the Emirates Stadium this week.
Arsenal have won just 2 of the last 8 games in all competitions following the draw in the Spanish capital, but one of those was in the Premier League last weekend when narrowly beating Newcastle United. The side had failed to win the previous 2 games at the Emirates Stadium before that win last Saturday.
Martin Odegaard is a doubt, while both Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz are also expected to miss out.
Fulham
After a couple of setbacks in the Premier League, Fulham have reignited hopes of earning a spot in European competition following the win over Aston Villa last time out. This is at a time when Marco Silva is being linked with the vacant role at Stamford Bridge, but the Fulham players remain committed to the cause and so does the manager.
They moved up into 10th place after results last weekend and Fulham are only 2 points behind 6th placed Brighton, which should offer plenty of motivation for a strong end to the campaign. Improving the 4-4-9 away record will be the challenge, beginning with Fulham's trip to the Emirates Stadium in the late Saturday kick off.
Fulham have only lost 1 of the last 5 Premier League games since being dumped out of the FA Cup, but a couple of those fixtures have ended in draws to slow the progress. The side have failed to score in the last 3 away Premier League games played, although Fulham have been beaten once in that run in a 2-0 defeat at Liverpool.
Alex Iwobi has been ruled out, while both Ryan Sessegnon and Kenny Tete are doubts.
Head to Head
A second half goal was enough for Arsenal to earn a narrow 0-1 win at Craven Cottage earlier this season.
Arsenal have not always had their way with this London rival- they have won just 2 of the last 4 when hosting Fulham, while both have been by single goal margins.
Prediction
There will be a lot of focus on the Champions League Semi Final Second Leg, but Arsenal need to find a way to balance domestic commitments with those in European competition.
Entering May, points feel way more important than games in hand and Arsenal can move 6 points clear of rivals Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
Of course Manchester City would have two games in hand, but Arsenal have a big opportunity to build pressure on the rivals by putting those points on the board.
They played well enough at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Semi Final First Leg, but it is another fixture without a win and this Arsenal team have looked vulnerable. Key players are available, but others have picked up knocks and Arsenal were put under a lot of pressure by Newcastle United last time out here.
They won that game 1-0, but Arsenal were anything but convincing and that should give Fulham some confidence.
Wins have been tough to come by for Fulham, but they did beat Aston Villa last weekend and have only lost 1 of the last 5 Premier League games. The away form is less encouraging when it comes to wins, but Fulham have shown grit and resilience and they can make things difficult for the hosts.
In recent visits to the Emirates Stadium, Fulham have found some very big results and strong performances and they look like a team that can be backed with this start on the Asian Handicap.
