Aston Villa

There was some controversy attached to Aston Villa's loss in the Europa League Semi Final First Leg, but Unai Emery has to still believe that his side can fight back and earn a positive result to take their place in the Final. He is also keep to wrap up a top five finish in the Premier League as soon as possible, but Aston Villa suffered a slight setback last Saturday.

Losing at Craven Cottage saw Aston Villa slip back into 5th place in the Premier League table, but they remain 8 points clear of 6th placed Brighton and with just four more matches to be completed. Over the last couple of seasons, the form at Villa Park has been hugely important for Emery's team and that is the case again in 2025/26 as Aston Villa have compiled an 11-2-4 in front of the home supporters.

Aston Villa had been motoring as they put together a 6 game unbeaten run in all competitions during which time they had won 5 times, but back to back 1-0 away defeats have slowed things down. The side have bounced back from a 1-4 home defeat to Chelsea and Aston Villa have won 4 in a row at Villa Park in all competitions.

Amadou Onana is set to miss out, while the manager is likely going to make some changes to his starting eleven to freshen things up.

Tottenham Hotspur

The emotional rollercoaster that Tottenham Hotspur supporters are enduring had a couple of dips and climbs last weekend- just when it looked like Tottenham Hotspur were going to drop two key points, a late winner was found at Molineux. That was quickly followed by news filtering through that West Ham United had conceded an equaliser, but an even later strike helped The Hammers to a victory that keeps Spurs in the bottom three.

Roberto De Zerbi had suggested his Tottenham Hotspur team could end the season with five wins and got the first of those on the board in the 0-1 win at Wolves, although that means they remain 18th in the Premier League table and 2 points from safety. This weekend they play after West Ham United and so there could be some real pressure on Tottenham Hotspur when looking to improve the 6-5-6 away record on Sunday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur won a Premier League game for the first time in the 2026 calendar year last weekend and that means they have picked up 4 points from a possible 9 under the new manager. The side had lost 4 of 5 away games played in all competitions before the late winner at Molineux.

It was not all good news last weekend after Xavi Simons suffered an injury that will keep him out for months. Dominic Solanke was also injured and is expected to miss out, while the likes of Guglielmo Vicaro, Destiny Udogie and Pape Sarr are doubts.

Head to Head

These two teams have met twice in North London this season and both have ended in 1-2 wins for Aston Villa in the Premier League and FA Cup.

Aston Villa have also won 3 of the last 4 at home against Tottenham Hotspur.

Prediction

Depending on results earlier in the weekend, there could be a bit more pressure on Aston Villa to avoid missing out on the Champions League in back to back Premier League seasons.

Last season they failed to earn a result at Old Trafford on the final day that would have been enough to secure another shot at the Champions League and the loss last weekend at Craven Cottage will have kept rivals interested in chasing them down.

The season concludes with matches against Liverpool and Manchester City and so it is important to make use of Villa Park where the home team have been strong all campaign.

Unai Emery will have one eye on the Europa League Semi Final Second Leg, but he has made it clear that the Premier League cannot be ignored and his team selections have backed that up.

Making an intense start will be key when Aston Villa host Tottenham Hotspur, who have picked up some key points under Roberto De Zerbi.

The new manager continues to try and keep a positive mood around Tottenham Hotspur and the battling win over Wolves will have given the squad a boost. However, there were times in that match where Tottenham Hotspur looked nervy and they will know how tough they have had it when visiting Villa Park in recent years.

The squad remains hit by key injury and more were picked up last weekend in the win at Molineux.

This leaves Tottenham Hotspur looking a little vulnerable and they are certainly being priced up with a lot more respect than most clubs in their current position. Some of that is down to the uncertainty about Aston Villa's motivations, but back to back defeats means the home team will be looking for a boost of their own and Villa Park has proven to be a much happier hunting ground for the hosts.

The Pick :

Aston Villa 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur
