Burnley
Attention will soon turn to appointing a new manager and one that can not only restore Burnley to the Premier League at the first time of asking, but one that may help the squad offer more resistance at this level. A yo-yo club may not be bad for the owners of the club, but Burnley fans will want to see more from them after having another poor campaign at this level.
The 1-0 defeat at Arsenal on Monday evening leaves Burnley in 19th place in the Premier League table, but they are just 2 points ahead of Wolves and need to avoid defeat to avoid going down as the bottom club. There are also financial rewards at stake for finishing 19th compared with 20th and Burnley conclude the campaign at Turf Moor where they have a 2-6-10 record this season.
Burnley have been relegated without offering much resistance and the side have not won any of the last 12 games in all competitions, while losing 9 times. They have not won a home Premier League game since October, but 2 of the last 4 here have ended in draws.
Josh Cullen and Jordan Beyer are set to miss out.
Wolves
He came into the club with Wolves struggling badly and Rob Edwards has not been able to reverse what has long been felt as an inevitable slide out of the English Premier League. In a somewhat surprising turn of events, some fans have actually begun to turn against Edwards as manager and he will need Wolves to have a strong start to the Championship season beginning in August.
The squad is going to have a number of players leaving and arriving in the off-season, but the manager will have to restore the confidence of those working for him and also try and change the atmosphere around the club. This is going to be challenging, but Wolves will be looking for a win to round out this campaign which would mean being relegated in 19th place rather than as the bottom club.
Wolves have not won any of the last 8 Premier League games and they have been beaten in 5 of those matches, although did earn a 1-1 draw with Fulham last week in the last home game of the campaign. The away form has been disappointing and Wolves have lost 4 of the last 5 Premier League games played on their travels.
The squad that was available last weekend should be set to travel to the North West for the final game of the season.
Head to Head
Burnley blew a 0-2 lead, but scored an injury time winner in a 2-3 victory at Molineux earlier this season.
They are unbeaten in 7 at Turf Moor against Wolves and Burnley have won 4 of those matches.
Prediction
Both of these clubs may have looked at the fixture list and been hoping this last fixture of the season would have lots more on the line than merely deciding who will go down as the bottom club.
Unfortunately for Burnley and Wolves, both have been cut adrift for some time and they have long been thinking about preparing for Championship Football.
Burnley have a big decision to make about the new manager, while Rob Edwards is going to be feeling the pressure pretty quickly in the 2026/27 season if Wolves are not able to make a fast start to the campaign.
Motivation is hard to judge on the final day with both Burnley and Wolves struggling for wins down the stretch- Burnley have not won any of their last 12 and been beaten 9 times, while Wolves have not won any of 8 and lost 5 of those.
Being at home should give Burnley the edge, but it is not a clear one considering they have not won a Premier League game at Turf Moor since October.
However, Wolves have not won an away Premier League game all season.
You have to imagine both teams will play with 'nothing to lose', but that has been the case for a number of weeks now and it is clear that Burnley and Wolves have lacked real quality.
The layers have Burnley down as the favourites, but the draw looks like it could be a real runner and that is the biggest price in the win-draw-win market and may be worth a small interest.
If someone placed a gun to the head and demanded a winner be picked, the edge would likely be with Burnley who have scored in the last game played at Turf Moor, while Wolves have failed to hit the back of the net in each of the last 3 away from home.
Prior to the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, Burnley had been struggling for home goals though and a low-scoring draw would surprise no one.
