Fulham
Marco Silva has stated that no decision has been made about his future as he takes Fulham into the final game of the season without a contract extension being signed. Reports have suggested Benfica are interested in having Marco Silva replace Jose Mourinho as manager for the 2026/27 season, but the current Fulham manager has urged his team for one more big effort at Craven Cottage.
The draw at Molineux has dropped Fulham into 13th place in the Premier League table and a poor few weeks has meant European hopes have been all but dashed. The side conclude the season at Craven Cottage on Sunday where Fulham have put together a 10-2-6 record in the top flight.
Fulham have won 1 of the last 6 Premier League games since the March international break and earning just 5 points from a possible 18 has meant failing to earn a place in European competition. They had won consecutive home Premier League games either side of that March international break, but Fulham were beaten by Bournemouth last time out at Craven Cottage and have lost 4 of the last 7 here in all competitions.
Ryan Sessegnon is a doubt, while Joachim Andersen is suspended.
Newcastle United
The late season form has been a case of too little, too late for Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United squad as far as this season is concerned, but it has perhaps been a key to the board likely retaining the manager for another season in charge. Returning to any European competition would have been the ambition, but missing out completely may end up being a blessing in disguise for a relatively small squad.
It is going to be a big summer for Newcastle United with key players rumoured to want to leave St James' Park, but for now the focus is to finish this campaign as best they can. The Magpies are 11th in the Premier League table, but are still hoping to finish above rivals Sunderland, although that can only happen if they add another win to the 4-5-9 away record and hope Regis Le Bris' team fail to win.
Newcastle United are unbeaten in 3 Premier League games after giving Arsenal a real test in a 1-0 defeat in North London, while the team have won 2 of those matches. They had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest in the last away game played, but that result snapped Newcastle United's 3 away game losing run.
Joelinton and Sandro Tonali are both doubts, while Kieran Trippier will play his last game for the club.
Head to Head
Newcastle United have beaten Fulham twice at home this season by the same 2-1 scoreline.
Fulham had lost 5 in a row at Craven Cottage against this opponent, but snapped that run in a 3-1 win here last season.
Prediction
A mid-table finish is set for both of these teams going into the final game of the season and the European places look like they are just too far in front.
Out of the two, Newcastle United are perhaps in with the superior chance of finishing in the top eight as long as they win in West London, but that is perhaps why they are set as the favourite.
It is hard to have Newcastle United in that position when you think of the poor overall away record produced this season- in the Premier League they have won just 4/18 away League games and in recent weeks they have been losing on their travels more than winning.
However, Marco Silva's uncertain future at Fulham has led to some uncertain results and this is a team that have lost more than half of the last 7 games played at Craven Cottage.
Fulham have just lacked some cohesion at both ends of the pitch, while they had a really poor record hosting Newcastle United before beating them 3-1 here last season.
Recent form has seen Newcastle United produce the more convincing football, while they seem to have a bit more certainty as to who will be guiding them into the 2026/27 season. The players are producing some decent football, even as the likes of Anthony Gordon have been left out of the starting eleven with his personal future up in the air, and Newcastle United will certainly feel they can hurt Fulham.
Eddie Howe's team have just not convinced at the back and this could be the third fixture between the clubs that ends with at least three goals shared out this season.
In fact the last 4 between Fulham and Newcastle United have ended with three or more goals shared out and backing goals may be the best approach to take.
Recent Fulham fixtures have really lacked for goalmouth action, but there is nothing to lose on Sunday in what should be very warm conditions and it could end up being an open second half where chances are created at both ends of the pitch.
