Sheffield United
Last season was a miserable one for Sheffield United as they failed to get close to matching the ambitions of the supporters. The 13th place finish in the Championship was the lowest since Sheffield United won the League One title in 2017 and they remain hopeful that Chris Wilder can capture lightning in a bottle and once again push Sheffield United back towards the Premier League.
The losses piled up in the 2025/26 season, but Sheffield United have earned 9 points in the early part of this campaign and that gives them something to build upon. The Blades have a 1-1-1 record at Bramall Lane and Chris Wilder will be aware that it is a record that will need to be a lot better if Sheffield United are going to earn a Play Off spot at the very least.
Sheffield United have won 3 of the last 5 games played in all competitions following the 1-2 win at Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday evening. The side had ended last season with consecutive home League defeats and Sheffield United's unbeaten start to the season here was ended last weekend in a 1-3 defeat to Norwich City.
Wolves
The Football League have been incredibly upset with UEFA for placing Liverpool's Champions League game on the same night Everton were supposed to be hosting a League Cup tie and that has meant the latter had to be moved to next week. Everton suffered, but so did Wolves who are due to travel to Hill Dickinson Stadium and means a League fixture has to be postponed until October.
Cesar Preixoto will only have been focusing his team to get ready for this important League fixture with extra training days offered up after the postponement of the League Cup Third Round tie. One of the pre-season favourites for promotion have had something of a mixed return to the Championship, but Wolves will be happy enough with 8 points on the board, although the 1-1-1 away record can be improved.
Wolves have not won any of the last 2 Championship fixtures and have suffered a 4-2 loss at West Ham United before a 2-2 draw at Birmingham City. The side had won 3 in a row in all competitions before losing at the London Stadium, while Wolves have now scored at least twice in all 7 games played in all competitions under the new manager.
Head to Head
These two clubs met in the 2023/24 Premier League season and both fixtures were won by the home team.
Sheffield United have won 3 of the last 4 when hosting Wolves, although the exception was a defeat in the 2020/21 Premier League season.
Prediction
Both of these teams have begun this season in decent form and they are both going to be involved in League Cup Third Round action on Wednesday.
The Championship is the priority for Sheffield United and Wolves and both clubs have enjoyed plenty of time in the Premier League over the last several years to want to return to the big time.
Chris Wilder and Cesar Peixoto will be encouraged by what they have seen over the first month of the season, but the edge has to be with Wolves and the attacking threat they bring into every game.
The Blades have shown they are pretty sharp in the final third themselves, but Wolves have been the team creating the more sustainable threat in attacking areas in recent fixtures.
Losing at the London Stadium is not going to be a huge shock, but Wolves dominated at St Andrew's last weekend and only a real poor own goal cost them the three points.
If they can produce that level on Sunday, Wolves can follow Norwich City and they can pick up three points at Bramall Lane at odds against.
The Pick :
Sheffield United 1-2 Wolves
