2009-09-16 - Liverpool F.C vs Debrecen
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:Liverpool will aim to start off their Champions League at home to Hungarian Champions with an explosive start tonight. This will be the visitors first time in the Group stages and Liverpool should be able to take care of them comfortable before facing the likes of Lyon and Fiorentina in Group E.
Even though Benitez has given the Premiership as his top priority this season, but Liverpool have so often done well to reach the latter stages of the Champions League that they stand a real chance of playing in the final come May in Madrid.
Benitez has stated that even though the Premiership will be their main concern this season, but they will aim to do well in every competition entered and the Champions League is a massive competition.
For the record, Debrecen are the first Hungarian club to reach the group phase since Ferencvaros in 1995. Their last trip onto English soil ended in disappointment as they fell to a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford in 2005.
The Reds come into this match on the back of a 4-0 thrashing of newly promoted Burnley and Benitez will resist the temptation to make much changes to the side.
With competition in the side so stiff, even though Javier Mascherano is now fit once again, but at best he will have to settle for a place on the bench due to th good partnership between Lucas and Stevn Gerrard.
Liverpool will also be glad that Yossi Benayoun has been playing some fine football as he provides the passes to Fernando Torres upfront. Albert Riera has also earned a reprieve from Benitez after a poor start to the season. Liverpool will still miss the services of Daniel Agger and Alberto Aquilani due to long term injuries.
For the visitors Debrecen, it waits to be seen how their summer signing Mirsad Mijadinoski can handle Fernando Torres at the back. He has done well in helping Debrecen to five consecutive wins this season, but facing the Spanish International will be a whhole new ball game now.
The visitors are set to miss the services of Zoltan Szelesi with a knee injury, while Gergely Rudolf (also knee) and Djordje Pantic (concussion) are doubtful. Their fears are compounded by the absence of suspended duo Jozsef Varga and Tibor Dombi.
