Joint leaders at the top of the Championship with Millwall, QPR entertain visitors Scnthorpe United at their Loftus Road ground on Saturday, aiming to make it three wins out of three.
Queens Park Rangers (2nd)
The last time QPR managed three wins at the start of the season, their current boss Neil Warnock hadn’t been born – bearing in mind he’s the league’s oldest manager, you can imagine how much it’ll mean to the Rangers fans if they can take all three points in this one.
QPR’s first two matches saw them thrash Barnsley 4-0 at home, then travel to Bramall Lane and blunt The Blades with a convincing 3-0 victory. They’ve yet to concede a goal in the league, it’s early days I know, but it’s a great start nonetheless.
Former Plymouth Argyle midfielder Jamie Mackie and Spurs signing Adel Taarabt have both notched a couple of goals apiece so far. Hungarian midfielder Akos Buzsaky will need to face a late fitness test, while ex-Portsmouth defender Fitz Hall is expected to recover from a hamstring injury.
Scunthorpe United (13th)
Scunthorpe United started their new season off in impressive fashion with a 2-1 away win at Reading, then accounted for Oldham Athletic in the Carling Cup by the same score before falling foul of Norwich City at home suffering a 0-1 loss.
The Iron are now a steady, solid Championship side who can cause problems for a lot of sides with their stylish, attacking play, but since top striker Billy Sharp left, they’ve never really pushed on to bigger things in the division. Sharp has been replaced with former Rochdale marksman Chris Dagnall (yet to score), and he’ll need to adapt to the pace of Championship football as part of his ongoing education.
Iron midfielder Gary Thompson (who scored 9 goals and 3 assists last season) is struggling with a groin problem, along with defender David Mirfin who has a thigh injury.
However, manager Neil Adkins hopes to recall defender Sam Togwell back to the travelling squad.
