2009-01-06 - Tottenham vs Burnley
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:Tottenham the current holders of the Carling Cup will welcome the visit of Burnley for the first leg of the semi-finals at White Hart Lane. Burnley have managed to disposed of the likes of Fulham, Chelsea and Arsenal out of this season's competition already and Spurs cannot take them lightly here for this encounter.
These two are coming into this match on the back of poor form as the hosts Tottenham have recorded their first win in five games against Wigan on Friday in the FA Cup third round. And Burnley comes into this fixture without a win in three games but remain confident of causing an upset and taking a good result back for the second leg.
With regards to the team news, Redknapp will be missing the likes of defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto and midfielder Jermaine Jenas as they are both suspended for this tie. Striker Darren Bent and midfielder Tom Huddlestone join Alan Hutton on the injured list with a groin and ankle problem respectively.
So, we will see the likes Roman Pavlyuchenko starting upfront as he has a good record scoring in every Carling Cup this season. Captain Ledley King could be given a rest for this match and be kept for the Premier League match against Wigan this weekend.
As for Burnley, manager Coyle could have Chris McCann back for this match after he seems to have recovered in time from treatment. However, midfielder Kevin McDonald who scored two goals for them against Arsenal will miss this match. Defender Stephen Caldwell also misses out as he is suspended. But the good news is that defender Stephen Jordan returns from his one match ban and will feature.
Take Tottenham to win this match but likely by a one goal difference.
Cheers and good luck,
