Champions Bohs have took off where they finished last season and have won 3 out of 3 league games. There main tital rivals Shamrock Rovers have had a poor start and have only 1 point and 8 points behind already at this early stage. Bohs have won two titles in a row and are favourites to make it 3. However despite the 100 per cent record, the performances have not been so good. They were awarded a very soft penalty to beat newly promoted Sporting Fingal and were losing 1-0 at UCD when UCD had a player sent off, Bohs scored twice late to win. Last week at Drogheda they trailed 2-1 when Drogheda had 2 players sent off.
Luck has been on there side however Bohs still have best squad in the league and any slip ups from their opponents will be punished. Bohs also have former Sligo star in striker Rafaelle Cretaro in their side who they signed from Sligo in the summer. Bohs also had the luxury of bringing on Jason Byrne as a sub last week. The 1 time capped international scored 22 league goals last season but faces stiff competition from Cretaro, former St Patricks Athletic player Mark Quigley and Paddy Madden.
Sligo finished in mid table last season and also reached the Cup Final where they lost 2-1 to newly promoted side Sporting Fingal. A good season for Paul Cook's side and they are fancied to push for a European spot this season. They have lost star striker to Bohs in Rafaelle Cretaro as mentioned above but have added some quality in Padraig Amond from Shamrock Rovers and a terrific signing in midfielder and former Cameroon International Joesph Ndo from Bohemians. Ndo is possibly the most gifted player in the league.
Sligo have 5 points from 3 games and remain unbeaten. They drew at home to Shamrock Rovers and got a good point on the road at Sporting Fingal. Last week they got their first win at home to Galway by a 1-0 scoreline. Sligo look a more solid outfit this season and will make life difficult for Bohs in this one.
VERDICT
Bohs have a 100 per cent record so far but have been far from convincing. Sligo are unbeaten and look solid and more improved on last season and I think they can get something from this.
