2011-09-10 - Coventry City vs Derby County
A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter
Football – England – Championship
Saturday 10th September 2011 – Kickoff: 1720hrs
Coventry City take on fellow midlands rivals Derby County in the later kick-off on Saturday evening at the Ricoh Arena as they look to break a five match sequence without a win.
Coventry City
The Sky Blues have not made the best of starts taking just one point at home so far which was a 0-0 draw with Watford and losing 0-1 to east midlands rivals Leicester City. Another east midlands outfit Derby County will be looking to extend their 100% away winning record at Coventry but will cover that later on.
Looking at Coventry City’s squad and they do appear a little light up front – yes they do possess attacking midfielders such as Lucas Jutkiewicz (2 goals), Gary McSheffrey, Sammy Clingan and David Bell, but they lack a couple of quality strikers to back their midfield up and consequently, I feel a lack of goals will be their major sticking point this season.
The early signs are beginning to show already as they’ve failed to hit the back of the net in their first two home matches. Indeed, Coventry’s two goals so far have been away from home and they will want to lift their fans as soon as possible no doubt.
Derby County
Today’s visitors, Derby County, have made a very positive start indeed to the new Championship campaign which will no doubt be a relief to under-fire manager Nigel Clough. The Rams won their four opening matches; 2-1 v Birmingham City, 1-0 away wins at Watford and Blackpool respectively, and a 3-0 win over early strugglers Doncaster Rovers.
It was a bit of a surprise then that their last outing ended in a 1-2 loss at home to Burnley, but such are the vagaries of Championship football, and I’m sure they’ll lift their game on Saturday accordingly.
Derby’s personnel include leading scorer Steve Davies (3 goals) who is an attacking midfielder/forward, striker Jamie Ward (ex-Sheffield United), along with former Notts County midfielder Ben Davies (1 goal, 3 assists) who has made an instant impact and had previously scored in double figures for former club Shrewsbury Town in League Two.
The Betting Verdict :
The results of the last two meetings between these two clubs have been shared with Coventry winning 2-1 and Derby 1-0 previous to that, but I feel the momentum is with Derby County in this one and I’m tipping them to nick it 1-0 but will cover them at a good price (see below). The Pick :
Coventry 0-1 Derby
