2011-10-18 - Luton Town vs Wrexham

A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter

LUTON TOWN v WREXHAM
Football – England – Blue Square Premier
Tuesday 18th October 2011 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Two of the form teams and promotion candidates in the Blue Square Premier go head-to-head tonight at Kenilworth Road when Luton Town clash with Wrexham in a top of the table shoot-out.

Both Luton and Wrexham won by four goal margins at the weekend with Luton trashing 5th placed Gateshead 5-1 while Wrexham trounced Stockport County 4-0 at the Racecourse ground.

Luton Town

Luton find themselves in third place just five points behind leaders Wrexham, and they seem to have put their temporary slip-up against Cambridge United a couple of weeks ago behind them following 10 goals in their last two home matches – 5-1 wins over Barrow and Gateshead respectively.

The Hatters’ home record therefore stands at an impressive 6-1-1 22/6, and have also recorded wins against Southport, Braintree, Darlington and Lincoln City. What is also impressive is that they’ve scored 5 goals on three separate occasions and have scored in all but one of their eight home matches so far, thus underlining their attacking quality at this level.

Up front Luton have forward Amari Morgan-Smith (9 goals) although he went off after just 12 minutes on Saturday so he may not feature tonight, but was replaced by Aaron O’Connor who got on the scoresheet anyway.

Also, Luton have Robbie Willmott (5 goals, 3 assists), midfielder Stuart Fleetwood (2 goals, 4 assists), James Dance (2 goals, 3 assists) and Jamie Hand who bagged a brace coming off the bench against Gateshead.

Goals really do come from all areas of the park so Wrexham will need to be at their best to combat these threats.

Wrexham

And Wrexham are capable of do this this – as the Welsh outfit currently sit top of the table thanks to a four-match winning streak despite losing manager Dean Saunders to Doncaster Rovers.

It’s been business as usual for The Dragons and alsong with Fleetwood Town, have recorded the most number of away wins in the division so far with 6. Their away record reads 6-1-1 18/7, and have also scored in all but one of their eight trips to date.

Wrexham are looking for their fourth successive away win following victories at Grimsby Town, Gateshead and Hayes & Yeading, although this fixture represents both Luton and Wrexham’s stiffest test yet.

Wrexham don’t mind scoring the odd goal here or there either though and have the likes of Jake Speight (7 goals, 4 assists), Andy Morrell (5 goals, 2 assists), Jamie Tolley and Nathaniel Knight-Percival (both with 3 goals apiece), along with ammunition supplied by Curtis Obeng (4 assists) and five other players providing 2 assists each in their extensive armoury.

The Betting Verdict :

In summary, we have the top goalscorers at home versus the top goalscorers away and we should expect goals to be scored in this fixture.

I’m leaning towards both teams to score at least one, although I’m not sure who (if any) will win. At least a 1-1 draw if not more though.
