Notts County take on Hartlepool United at their Meadow Lane Stadium on Tuesday night in what could be a big season for County.

Manager Keith Curle took over around halfway through last season and County surged during the latter half of the campaign which ended in them narrowly missing out on a play-off place.
This time around, Curle has been very active in the transfer market in the off-season and they have built a squad that has depth and quality enough to seriously contend not only for a play-off place but an automatic promotion spot.
In come no fewer than 13 new players since June and manager Curle now has several options at his disposal; most notably keeper Bialkowski from Southampton, Liddle from today’s opponents Hartlepool United, Zoko from Carlisle United plus too many more to mention here; suffice to say they probably now have one of the more stronger squads in League One.
The Magpies started this season with an impressive 2-1 win at tricky customers Crewe Alexandra at the weekend.

Hartlepool United drew 0-0 with Swindon Town on the first day of the season, and whilst it wasn’t the worst result to start with, it may provide an early indicator as to their possible goalscoring difficulties that they might encounter during the course of this season.
An ageing forward line of Steve Howard (34) and Colin Nish (31) may not be enough when Pools come up against a team such as Notts County’s calibre who are gunning for promotion. Midfielder Gary Liddle has joined Notts County with Simon Walton from Plymouth Argyle a direct replacement.
Hartlepool’s away record ended up at 8-8-7 29/33 while Notts County’s home record ended impressively at 13-5-5 42/29 and County manager Keith Curle will impress upon his players again that a solid home record will be fundamental to them having a tilt at promotion this season.
