After their 3-2 defeat on the road to RKC Waalwijk in the first round of the competition, PSV Eindhoven is back on track with a 5-0 win over Roda JC and a 1-3 win on the road to FC Groningen last week.
Despite some more than decent chances it took until just before halftime for PSV to open the score with Hutchinson (def) chipping the ball over Luciano (gk). Goals from Mertens (att) and Depay (att) in the second half allowed the visitors take a 0-3 lead with the hosts pulling one goal back thanks to Schet (mid).
During midweek’s game against Zeta FK in the Europe League, PSV Eindhoven cruised to a 9-0 win and the team will be all fired up and full of confidence for the game on Sunday.
PSV will have a fully fit selection apart from the long term injured Pieters (def) for the game against AZ.
AZ Alkmaar
AZ Almaar and SC Heerenveen both did not manage to find the net resulting a 0-0 draw in Alkmaar.
In the first half, AZ Alkmaar slowly started looking for the opening goal, but the team was not a shadow of the creative team that broke down Heracles Almelo last week.
Altidore (att) managed to hit the post after two failed attempts to be awarded a penalty kick, which were the highlights of the first half.
SC Heerenveen had the best of the play in the second half and especially after the sending off of Gudmundsson (mid) fifteen minutes from time the visitors were given some excellent chances to take the lead.
In the stoppage time AZ came close to net the winning goal, but a good save from the SC Heerenveen goalkeeper prevented the visitors from dropping a point.
AZ suffered a 0-5 defeat against Anzi (Rus) in the Europe League last Thursday and the elimination was a huge blow for the team. With the away game to PSV coming up it will be a mental challenge for team manager Verbeek to get his team back on track.
AZ will have some missings for their game against PSV with Gudmondsson (mid) being suspended after his red card last weekend. Lam (def) and Ortiz (mid) are most likely to remain sidelined while Martens (att) is doubtful picking up a hamstring injury.
The Betting Verdict :
PSV Eindhoven has so much quality in the team and with seventeen scored goals in their last three games it will be hard to see past a home win. Therefore we are not even going to try.
This game should be a spectacle full of goals, cards and emotion and I will be pairing up with the hosts to win. A side bet will be a red card to be given in a game where the visitors may have some frustration coming out.
