Tenth placed Burton Albion could break into the play-off spots if they take all three points against visiting Torquay United at their Pirelli Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Burton have produced some mixed results in the last few weeks with wins against Rochdale and sixth placed Southend United, but have also been on the end of defeats against Barnet and York City, but both of these matches were away from home and this doesn’t really concern me with their home form being in good shape.

Burton Albion’s home record stands at a healthy 8-3-2 28/14 and they’ve lost just once in their last eleven League Two matches on home soil which was a surprising 0-1 loss to Aldershot Town towards the end of November. However, the other ten matches in this run includes seven wins over Oxford United 4-0, York City 3-1, Bradford City 1-0, Dagenham 3-2, Accrington Stanley 1-0, Rochdale 3-2 and Southend United 2-0. Amongst these wins is also a draw at home to second placed Port Vale, so The Brewers are no push-overs at the Pirelli.

The attacking danger men for Burton Albion include Zola (8 goals, 6 assists), Kee (7 goals, 2 assists) and Maghoma (6 goals, 4 assists) and they should notch at least one goal between them given that the hosts have failed to score just twice at home all season.

TORQUAY UNITED

Onto visitors Torquay United then, and The Gulls’ promotion campaign has taken quite a large dent in the last few weeks as the west country outfit have failed to win in their last four league matches.

Defeats against Bradford City and AFC Wimbledon were sandwiched by gaining just single points against Northampton Town and arch-rivals Plymouth Argyle, both in 1-1 draws. This has resulted in Torquay dropping down the table and they find themselves some seven points adrift of Fleetwood Town and the play-off pack.

Indeed, their drop in form has resulted in just two league wins from their last nine matches which were against York City and Dagenham & Redbridge. Torquay’s away form doesn’t read any better I’m afraid with that York win the only success in their last eight on the road with a disappointing overall away record of 2-5-5 9/11, the lack of goals being the main reason behind their failures on their travels.

THE BETTING VERDICT:

Torquay have failed to score on five occasions and against a Burton side who are regular goalscorers on home soil, Torquay could once again struggle on Saturday afternoon. Despite some mixed results overall, Burton have been very strong at home and they score goals, so I’ll give the quarter ball away on them today and I expect them to record a relatively easy 2-1 win here.
