Analysis:A.S Roma who are currentlyin second place and seven points adrift off leaders Inter Milan will welcome the visit of Sampdoria in ninth spot and will be aware of that they need to get maximum points from this match as the Milan derby will be taking place this weekend and they will be hoping that A.C Milan can take some points off their neighbours here.
A.S Roma have performed poorly in recent matches after beating Udinese as they could only managed draws against Livorno and Torino, sides whom they should have beaten. Their cause has not been helped by the injury to Captain Francesco Totti who suffered a recurrence of his ankle injury and is likely to miss this match once again. Mirko Vucinic will start this match in the absence of Totti but has not been doing so well as he has scored just twice in his 14 league appearances.
Philippe Mexes is also out of this match as he is suspended. Matteo Ferrari is expected to take his spot here. But the good news is that Rodrigo Taddei is available after serving his suspension and he is likely to come into the side at the expense of Ludovic Giuly. Simone Perrotta will be given a start in the first eleven which means that there is no place for Matteo Brighi in the side.
As for the visitors Sampdoria, coach Walter Mazzari will not have the services of two former A.S Roma players here as Vincenzo Montella is out injured while Antonio Cassano is suspended for this match after being booked in the match against Fiorentina. Paolo Sammarco who has served his suspension will miss this match as he picked up and injury which will ruled him out untiul the new year. Mazzari has to decide who will partner Claudio Bellucci upfront in the absence of Cassano. There is every indication it will be handed to Emiliano Bonazzoli.
Last season when these two sides met Roma won by 4-0. But it was largely due to Francesco Totti contributing two goals in it. But with him not playing in this fixture it could be a lot more tighter than it seems on paper.
Roma is the favourite to win here, but likely just by one goal.
