2008-05-05 - Newcastle United vs Chelsea F.C
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:Chelsea will be visiting St. James Park on a must win mission if they are to catch Manchester United and prevent them from retaining their title this season. But Newcastle United could do Manchester United a favour here as they are on a seven match unbeaten run at the moment and will give Chelsea a good run for their money here for this early kickoff on Bank Holiday Monday.
Newcastle United enters this match winning their last three home matches and have scored seven goals in the process without conceding any. A win for Kevin Keegan’s side would definitely see them finish 12th in the standings which is a good achievement considering that they were battling against relegation at one stage.
But they will have to come up against Chelsea who are not only going for the Premiership title battling against United but also the double as well. The Blues will want to win this match at all cost to keep the pressure on Manchester United who are also going for the double. A win for Chelsea would once again put them level on points with United but still in second spot as they are separated by goal difference and make the final match of the season a nail biter.
Chelsea are however unbeaten in their last nine games on their travels and have only failed to score in one of their last 19 Premier League outings. However, Chelsea has struggled in the past and their record at St. James Park is not fantastic as they have failed to win there since December 2001!
Their last meeting at Stamfird Bridge saw them win 2-01 thanks to a late Salomon Kalou goal and will now be eager to complete a double over the Magpies here today.
With regards to the team news, Kevin Keegan will have Mark Viduka back in the side for the visit of Chelsea. The Australian striker has recovered from his Achilles injury and should be fit to take his place in the side. The good news is that James Milner , Abdoulaye Faye and David Edgar is also fit for this match having recovered from their injuries. However, Stephen Carr remains doubtful.
Chelsea on the other hand comes into this match with a full strong side to choose from. Michael Ballack is expected to shake off the slight bruise he suffered in the midweek win over Liverpool.
As for my pick, due to Chelsea’s poor record at St. James Park, it will not be an easy win, I will go for this match to end in a draw or at best Chelsea to win by a goal here. But on the handicap, take Newcastle and accept the 1 ball here.
Cheers and good luck,
