Liverpool enters this match being six points behind Manchester United after the Red Devils beat Middlesbrough 2-0 at The Riverside yesterday. They will come up against Newcastle who are fighting against relegation and the visitors will need a win to draw level with Hull who play on Monday Night Football.

The Reds will be boosted by the return of Steven Gerrard and knows they need to win this match if they are to put the pressure on United. Gerrard who has been missing in their last four matches will go back to the side after recovering from a groin injury against relegation threatened Newcastle.

Meanwhile Kevin Nolan and Ryan Taylor could get recalls after being omitted from the side to face Portsmouth. Shearer could once again start with a three pronged attack of Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Mark Viduka in a bid to get the goals.
