2025-07-02 - Adrian Mannarino vs Valentin Royer
A Sports Betting Pick by FirstDown
Tennis: Wimbledon Second Round
Wednesday 2nd July 2025 - Scheduled 11am (British Time)
Preview
Another veteran of the Tour has been forced to come through the Qualifiers at Wimbledon in June 2025 and this is eighteen months after Adrian Mannarino set a new career high World Ranking mark of Number 17. At 37 years old, Mannarino is very close to moving aside for the next group of French players coming onto the Tour, although he will be hoping to make Valentin Royer wait a little longer.
The latter also had to join the Qualifiers and he has now won nine sets in a row on the grass having dropped the first played in 2025.
Beating Stefanos Tsitsipas is going to give Valentin Royer a huge boost in confidence, even if the Seeded player had to withdraw after two sets were played. Despite that, Valentin Royer will feel much more comfortable on the grass having lost his only match played on the surface in 2024 and then deciding to skip all warm up events and only enter the Qualifiers for the third Grand Slam of the season.
There is going to be a mental challenge of facing a compatriot who has achieved so much on the Tour and really gotten the most out of his talents. We have seen those lower Ranked or from the generation after those that have trail-blazed for the nation have trouble when facing those players from a mental standpoint, and veteran Adrian Mannarino will delve into his box of tricks to make Valentin Royer feel as uncomfortable as he can in this Second Round match.
And it also should be noted that Adrian Mannarino's best win-loss record at Grand Slam level has been right here at Wimbledon, where his tennis has always felt pretty suited to the surface.
He may be the lower Ranked player in the match, but Mannarino's experience feels important and that mental edge of being the older Frenchman could still come through in a win in three or, more likely, four sets.
Prediction
Look for the winner of this match to come through in three or four sets.
