2011-05-21 - Port Adelaide Power vs Fremantle Dockers
A Sports Betting Pick by Costanzo
Date: 21-05-2011
Venue: AAMI Stadium, Adelaide
This game in pretty much a nothing game for me except from a betting viewpoint, I think with the current form of the Power the Dockers are a lock in this one.
Port Adelaide Power
There is not really much to say about the struggling Power. They have been awful of late and I cannot see them changing their form against a Dockers side hungry to bounce back after a poor result in the derby.
Their defence has Chaplin and Carlile who can put in big games but aside from them it falls apart pretty quickly. I cannot see them holding a potentially explosive Freo side who came to Adelaide earlier in the season and put a job on the Crows.
In the middle the regular names like Pearce and Cornes do a fair bit but the question is how effective can two consistent midfielders be. In my opinion they would have the 16th ranked midfield in the league and to compete against better teams, this is an area that has to be better.
Up forward the Power can be potent at times, particularly on home turf. But the question of consistency again hangs over their head. The players like Ebert, Westhoff and Davenport have been flashes in the pan. They have promised so much but delivered so little. I do not see them clicking in this game and delivering a win.
Fremantle Dockers
The Dockers will be hungry to re-assert themselves after a loss last
week to the Eagles. They haven’t had the worst record at AAMI Stadium of late and will look to continue it here.
The defence is led by Luke McPharlin but with the likes of Antoni Grover nearby to lend assistance the Dockers will be in good stead. I think the crucial point in this game is in the Dockers back half. The equation is simple for them. Hold Port Adelaide to 90 or fewer points and the Dockers get the W.
Through the middle with Mundy, Pavlich and Hill the Dockers have a massive class edge. Ranking them compared to the Power would see a massive difference, their midfield I would have at about 6th in the league. The battle for clearances will be pivotal in this one as well as efficiency going inside 50. All signs point to Freo being superior in these areas.
Up forward the Dockers have more options and with Pavlich able to push forward at will and become a serious goal kicking option, the Dockers are blessed. With Ballantyne, Mayne and Johnson providing the main options I definitely prefer the Dockers forward line up to the Power forward line.
The Verdict
To me this just seems like a game that only has one possible outcome, a Docker win.
