BOSTON RED SOX
Yesterday, Boston led by 3 in the bottom of the 9th and gave up 4 runs to lose at Toronto. They had the brooms out for the three game series and they blew it, 5-6. A hard loss and it brings into play the familiar factor of a team that might just let their heads drop following a heartbreaking loss.
Boston are now 4 games behind Tampa Bay in a race to get the wild card spot and the pressure will be on. Josh Beckett has won boston 61% of his games, but this season he has really raised a stink. He is 3-2 with a 6.21ERA in 12 starts this season and has just allowed 7 earned runs and a massive 11 hits over just 4.2 innings of work in a 7-2 loss to the New York Yankees last Sunday. Over his 7 road games, Beckett has an unimpressive ERA of 6.23.
TEXAS RANGERS
As mentioned, Texas also took a tough loss in their last outing. They led the Yankees 6-1 two nights ago in the 6th but lost 7-6. Texas, however, is under less pressure than Boston because they have a 7.5 game lead on the Angels in their division.
Texas is now 37-22 at home this year, and averaging 5.44 runs per game.They will send Tommy Hunter to the hill, and he is 9-1 with a 3.01ERA in 12 starts this season. At home, in Arlington, he is 6-0 with a 2.53ERA in 7 starts this year.
BETTING VERDICT
Texas have won 11 of their last 16 meetings against Boston, and have a very impressive 5-1 record when facing the Red Sox in Arlington of late. I'm going with Texas.
