PREVIEW
Everton pulled off a huge upset in midweek, beating Manchester City 1-0 to become only the 3rd side to do so this term. The Toffees are now in Wigan, playing a much easier opponent. You'd think there is a chance of a letdown, but I feel Everton are being priced very generously.
Wigan too played in midweek, and had their backsides handed to them in North London, losing 3-1. Martinez put it down to transfer rumours but that sounds like a poor excuse. Wigan are a poor team and that is why they got thumped. They might be at home, but their record at the DW is dreadful, winning just once in 11 tries, losing 6.
Wigan have hosted Everton 6 times in the Premier League, and have won just once, losing half the matches. Earlier this season, Wigan went to Liverpool and came back following a 3-1 loss. The stats for Wigan this season are shocking. They have scored just 20 goals this season, worst in the Premier League. They have conceded 48 goals, again, worst in the league.
Wigan are giving up almost 2 goals on average at home and have the worst home record, picking up just 7 points. They have also gone 8 games without a win.
Everton have boosted their squad with the loan signing of Steven Pienaar and Nikica Jelavic and I think they will come here in a great frame of mind. The price on Everton has to do with their record, which I admit has not been great away from home so far.
Everton have won just 1 of their last 5 away games but on the other hand they are facing the worst team in the league, at a time when their own game is showing signs of improvement, while their hosts fall further. It's all about the momentum for me here.
BETTING VERDICT
I'm going to go with Everton here, giving up 3/4 ball on the AH at a massive price. If you're after a bigger profit at more risk, you could consider Everton to win by exactly one goal. Those looking for a safe bet should be happy with the 2.16 available on the Everton win over at Pinnacle.
