Sheffield United will be looking to close the gap on arch-rivals Sheffield Wednesday when they take on lowly Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United have suffered two defeats recently but these can be explained; both away from home at a strong Carlisle United and a 0-1 at Charlton Athletic (league leaders), while they’ve won all remaining eight matches of their last ten played in League One.

Notable wins over Bournemouth and Hartlepool United at home and a 3-0 win at Bury have kept The Blades on course and will be looking for another 3 points here today.

Sheffield United's home record stands at 10-2-2 33/16 and they are the highest goalscorers at home in League One. They are also unbeaten in their last eight at Bramall Lane and have dealt effectively with the lower half teams ie 3-2 over Walsall, 3-0 versus Rochdale, 3-1 over Hartlepool and 4-0 against Yeovil Town.

Leading scorers strikers Ched Evans (11 goals, 4 assists), Richard Cresswell (7 goals, 7 assists) and midfielder Lee Williamson (6 goals, 3 assists) should enjoy themselves here, while creative midfielder Stephen Quinn (1 goal, 10 assists) is expected to open the door on several occasions.

It’s a similar story for Wycombe but in reverse; two wins at home but these were against second from bottom Rochdale and poor travelling Tranmere Rovers and aside from that they’ve lost their last five matches and they’re leaking goals.

A 0-2 loss at Bournemouth, a 0-6 thrashing at home to Huddersfield Town and a 2-5 loss at Brentford does not fill me with confidence that they’ll get anything at Sheffield on Saturday, while their away record stands at 2-3-9 18/30, with only Chesterfield (33 goals) conceding more than them on the road.

The Chairboys have also not won in their last seven away matches and haven’t done well against the top six teams generally speaking.

The Betting Verdict :

Sheffield United need to get their promotion campaign back on track and must win this one today – they have far more attacking depth in squad than Wycombe, so it’s time for The Blades to step up here which I’m confident they will; a 3-1 home win for United here.
